The final table of nine players is all set at Resorts World Manila’s Super High Roller with yesterday’s chip leader, Jay Lubas, continuing to be a dominating force in the tournament. Ending the day with 886,000 in chips, Lubas stormed through the highly aggressive field and is closely followed by A.J. Brock on 750,000 in chips, but is miles ahead of the next nearest competitor Amelito Segarra on a 283,000 stack.

Lubas took down one of the biggest pots before the end of the night against 10th place finisher and final table bubble boy Dmitry Ivanov. During the hand, Lubas raised to 35,000 in mid position and Ivanov reraised to 75,000. Noticing Ivanov’s shaky hands, big-stacked Lubas pushed all in, putting Ivanov in a tough position to gamble for his tournament life. However, in a snap, Ivanov called his remaining 250,000 chips and was sorely disappointed when Lubas flipped open  against his . The board ran  taking Ivanov out of the tournament while Lubas scooped up the biggest pot of the night.

Earlier in the session, Lubas took advantage of his already big stack and bullied Jay Tolon in three consecutive hands. In their first confrontation, Tolon raised it four times to 20,000. Lubas repopped and made it 60,000 to go. After hitting the think tank, Tolon decided to fold while adding in that he had just folded Jacks, though he didn’t show.

In the second encounter, Lubas opened for 20,000. Tolon made the call and both players saw a flop of . As first to act, Tolon bet 30,000 and was surprised to hear Lubas announce he was all in. After tanking again, Tolon eventually folded and stated that this time he held Kings but, once again, he didn’t show.

On the third round, Tolon raised it up to 25,000 and Lubas once again pushed all in. As previous, Tolon folded and commented that he held Ace-King after he mucked without a show.

Although A.J. Brock did not amass his towers in massive pots, he did steadily scoop in several pots without a showdown. He then took out Lester Edoc on a blind versus blind battle. Without any limpers, short-stacked Edoc pushed all in from the small blind with  and was instantly called by Brock who held . The flop ran  giving Edoc the moment’s lead, however, the turn card of  gave Brock a straight and with a  on the river Edoc was out in 13th place.

In poker, not only is it impressive to watch big stacks get bigger, but it is also equally impressive to watch short stacks make it into the final table. One such player is the third-placed Segarra. He entered Day 2 with 44,500 and instantly doubled up when he pushed with  and was called by a player with . The board ran well for Segarra with the Jack as the window card giving him a sweet double up.

Later in the tournament, he doubled up again, this time in a hand against Ivanov who seemed quite disappointed at the loss. From mid position, Segarra raised the minimum only to be bullied by Ivanov who shoved all in. Hitting the tank for a bit, the smiling Segarra decided to gamble. But when the cards were flipped open, Segarra was ahead with  over Ivanov’s . The board was no help for Ivanov and Segarra doubled up again to around 260,000 chips.

At the end of the day, the final nine who will return to the felt for a chance at the first prize purse of PHP 6,000,000 are:

1. Jay Lubas 886,000
2. A.J. Brock III 750,000
3. Amelito Segarra 283,000
4. Lin Xiao Gang 274,000
5. Tanzhi Xiong 224,000
6. Archie Mariano 195,000
7. Eduardo Ligon 187,000
8. Mike Kim 154,000
9. Jay Tolon 78,000

The final table begins at 1pm today.

Running alongside the RWM Super High Rollers Tournament was the PHP 3,000,000 guaranteed Badugi event. The Philippine Avia Group International came out in full force with their yellow jackets scattered throughout the room. With a buy-in of PHP 50,000, there were 67 players in the field.

At the end of the night, six players survived and will return for today’s final table with first place set to receive PHP 1,206,000 in prize money. In the lead with 478,000 in chips is Li Jing Hao followed by Jo Young Ho (232,000), Jeong Seung Soo (200,000), Jung Seong Il (195,000), Choi Hun Kwang (119,000) and Park Sun Ku (81,000).

While we didn’t catch much of the action because of the Super High Roller, we did see Kwang amass over 140,000 chips after eliminating two players in one hand. With four players in the pot, two of which were all in by the final round of betting, Kwang showed  for Badugi and a sweet pile of chips.
