Basic Poker Strategies to win more Texas Holdem Tournaments

1. Reduce The Gambling Effect
When you choose to play a poker hand pre-flop or if you decide to chase your draw after the flop, ask yourself this important question, am I willing to risk all my poker chips on this hand? By reducing the gamble in your game, you can get deeper.

2. Look For and Pounce on Opportunities
Keep your eyes open for good opportunities to maximize your money. If your opponent will always bluff, can you re-raise to take down the pot? Does your opponent always make continuation bet even when he misses? Seize these opportunities and make a play against your weaker players.

3. Mind Your Own Business
Focus on your game more than worrying how many poker chips the chip-leader has, or how your opponents keep stealing your blinds. Focus on your best plays and take action when you can!

4. Watch out for the Early Poker Chip Builders
Many players will raise or call all-in early in a poker tournament, in hopes of doubling up so they can sit back and relax. Always avoid these dangerous situations and determine yourself to slowly build up your poker chips in a steady and consistent pace. The real play in poker comes when you get close to the money NOT in the first few blind levels of play.

5. Know The Enemy
What type of players are you up against? Are there a lot of skilled and experienced poker players? Or, is everyone a newbie? Take note of your opponents and play against them appropriately. If you know your enemy, you will also know how they play and you can make the right decision against them.

6. Information Is A Precious Commodity
Poker is more about information than anything else, and if you have perfect information against other poker players, you hold an advantage. Know all the facts in each hand you are involved, and put those facts together to make the right decision. Do not ignore the facts, use them to your advantage.

7. Set Your Mind Up For A Deep Run
You can make it deep in a poker tournament if you aim high and be careful to not allow yourself to get too heavily involved in situations that will cripple you. For example, if you play a suited connector and miss, costing you a large portion of your chips, then you may not have enough poker chips to protect your hand when you get a big pair like Kings or Aces.

8. Pick Your Spots, Then Make A Stand
There are times when you will need to commit all your poker chips in order to successfully make it deeper. Look for that spot and make a stand against your opponents. Do not be shy, avoid always check-folding or limp-calling. If you feel strong about your hand, go with your instinct, if you play poker timid and you are not making a stand it is likely you will end up finishing outside the money.

9. Don’t Be The Hero
When you get to the final table (or in the money), do not become a hero and try to knock out everyone. When a short stack moves all in, that does not necessarily mean you are obligated to call him. One of the absolute worst situations in poker is doubling or tripling a shortstack at a final table. Remember, he can always come back to knock you out!
